About This Site

A Massachusetts arrest record can begin with a local police log, continue through a county booking record, and later appear in a court file. State prison custody uses a separate Department of Correction locator. This privately operated reference maps those official paths and routes readers to the county connected to an arrest. It does not publish mugshot galleries or keep government records.

How the Records Fit

Massachusetts does not have one public statewide booking-photo roster. Each police department, sheriff, correctional agency, and court keeps records for its own work. A police log may report an arrest. A county sheriff may hold an intake record. The Massachusetts Department of Correction runs the state prison system, while the courts record later case events and dispositions.

This site brings those paths together and points readers toward the right official custodian. A local arrest and a state-prison sentence belong to different systems. An arrest remains an accusation unless a court establishes guilt, and a public log may not show the final result. The site hosts no mugshot galleries and does not claim to hold official records.

Topics and Source Paths

The statewide pages explain how to locate records without treating an arrest entry as a finding of guilt.

  • The home page explains booking records, state law, local logs, custody searches, and records requests.
  • The County Directory routes readers to all fourteen Massachusetts county sites.
  • Statewide guides cover wanted notices, public-record rules, old archives, and notable cases.
  • The DOC page explains the state-prison custody locator and how to request a DOC record.

Limits of This Reference

This is an independent reference service, not a Massachusetts government office and not part of a sheriff, jail, or corrections department. Only the agency that holds a record can confirm custody or release and provide its official copy.

  • We cannot release or transfer a person in custody.
  • We cannot post bond, arrange a visit, or send funds.
  • We cannot provide legal advice or decide whether a record is public.
  • Agency pages, phone lines, fees, and record practices can change.

For current custody, charges, release, or a record copy, contact the sheriff, police department, court, or state agency that holds it.

Search-Partner Disclosure

Some search boxes are run by outside providers with their own terms, results, and prices. If a reader follows a tool to a paid sign-up, this site may receive a referral fee. That support helps pay for the reference pages, but it does not give the site control over a partner’s service or charges.
