Choose the Record Custodian
Massachusetts has no single public office that holds every booking record. The correct contact depends on the arresting agency and where a person was held. For county records, select the locality in the County Directory. For state-prison custody or a DOC record request, start with the official Massachusetts Department of Correction pages.
- For an arrest or county booking, use the county directory to find the local official path and records office.

- For a state-prison custody status, follow the DOC and Massachusetts VINE instructions. The public locator does not show an offender photo.
- For a federal prison record, use the BOP inmate locator; for ICE custody, use the ICE locator.
- For a public court case, start with MassCourts or contact the clerk that holds the file.
